Last One Promise!!! Due 12/16/11

Ok I know its about that time for finals, but this was such a great article and it ties in to the carrot mob idea that I couldn't resist. So one last blog for this quarter. Read this article and comment on the following:
Link- http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/08/opinion/going-green-but-getting-nowhere.html?_r=2&scp=1&sq=going%20green%20but%20getting%20nowhere&st=cse

1) AHHH! What do you think?
2) I think this falls in line with the idea of the carrot mobs, so again I ask is this the wave of the future or do you think something else can change this bleak outlook!

Please post the new and fresh ideas of your generation!

  1. 1) I think that it is saddening to hear that our small efforts have very a little effect on the the world at a global scale. Reading this article makes me feel like recycling and reducing waste myself is pointless and does nothing. We all learn that we must care for the environment, but in reality, there is little we can do.
    2) We can not lose hope because of this article! After seeing that our little efforts have a very small impact, we should not only remain concerned with the environment, but we should double our efforts to make some difference in the world. Also, we can not raise a generation of people that believe that their actions have no effect on the environment. As we grow up, we may have a greater influence on the the world, and if we have been taught that our actions are harmless to the environment, we will be less likely to be green.

  2. 1. This article makes it seem like recycling and reusing things is doing nothing. The article made me realize that even if a bunch of people start becoming aware of environmental concerns, and start altering their life styles it still will not work. I agree with the article because if you recycle only a couple of times a month you are not really helping the environment because you are still using your car and putting more bad stuff into the environment then you are trying to fix.
    2. Since this article gave off the image that one persons effort cannot make a difference I think that people will be less inclined to help because the will get the mindset that what ever they do will not make a difference because it is so small. I think the carrot mob is more effective even though it is only a couple times a year. The article states that you cancel out your recycling efforts when you get in the car and drive home. I still think the only way to stop the pollution is to teach the younger generations.

  3. 1. I agree with Jerry, that it is really kind of depressing that our efforts of recycling aren't really helping. in a way yes we are helping the world be a better place, but the affect is very small.
    2. I believe that there still is hope. even though the affects are small, we need to keep doing them. we need to keep recycling because in the end the affect will be bigger than what it is right now.
